Monel® Alloys

Monel® Alloys

A nickel-copper range, Monel® alloys exhibit outstanding corrosion resistance in a wide range of media including seawater, hydrofluoric acid, sulphuric acid and alkaline.

What is Monel® Metal?

Monel® is a family of nickel alloys that contains varying amounts of copper, iron, manganese, and other elements. The most common Monel® alloys are Monel® 400 and Monel® K500. Monel® 400 is a pure nickel alloy that exhibits excellent resistance to corrosive environments and offers ductility, weldability, and pliability required in extreme conditions. Monel® K500 is a nickel-copper alloy with added titanium and aluminium, making it even more resistant to corrosion and offering higher strength and durability.

Monel® 400 Properties and Applications

Monel® 400 is a highly versatile and corrosion-resistant pure nickel alloy that can withstand a wide range of environments. Not only is it resistant to corrosion, but also offers the pliability required in extreme conditions. This pure nickel alloy is ideal for applications such as power plants, brine heaters, salt production equipment, and more. It is ductile, easy to weld, and highly resistant to caustic alkalis. Monel® 400 also offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and exhibits low rates of corrosion in pure water and non-oxidizing mineral acids, salts, and alkalis.

Monel® K500, also known as K-Monel®, is a nickel-copper alloy with added titanium and aluminium, offering higher strength and durability than Monel® 400. This heat-treatable alloy provides excellent resistance to sub-zero temperatures and is often used in pump and valve components, springs, chains, and other similar applications. Monel® K500 also exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion, including seawater, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and other aggressive environments.
