Vessels and Tubes in Waste to Energy Pyrolysis Application
One of the technologies aside from incineration used to convert waste materials such as plastics, municipal waste, medical waste, inorganic matter, tins, cans, etc., to heat and/or electricity is pyrolysis.
The process involves burning of these waste substances at intermediate/high temperature in the absence of air. Specialty alloys like 253 MA®, Alloy 309, Alloy 310S, RA330®, and Alloy 601 are used to construct the pyrolysis tube or vessels. These are generally selected for their oxidation resistance, high strength, thermal cyclic resistance, creep properties and above all carburization resistance and crack resistance.
- RA330® is selected for radial blades on open paddle wheel, forward curved blade and backward inclined blades especially when they require thermal fatigue resistance and oxidation resistance up to 1149°C.
- 253 MA® and Alloy 309 are a popular choice when creep strength is mostly required along with oxidation resistance up to 1093°C.
